Spesifikasi diatas akan cukup memukul beberapa seri 2 digit bahkan EOS 50D, apalagi yang baru membeli 500D baru-baru ini hanya terpaut 9 bulan sejak peluncuran 500D tahun lalu. Dengan kemampuan range ISO sampai dengan 6400 (boost to 12800) tentunya seri kamera amatir ini sangat tangguh di medan gelap sekalipun. Selain itu 550D ini mendukung perekam video yang menyamai 7D dan 5D mark II sampai 1080p, ini merupakan peningkatan dari sebelumnya 500D dengan resolusi 720p.
